Creative Things to Do in Melbourne: Join Us For A Lost Wax Jewellery Workshop

Here's A Look Inside Our Lost Wax Carving Workshop in Melbourne Where You'll Design & Make Your Own Jewellery.

Looking for a unique creative experience in Melbourne? Our Lost Wax Carving Jewellery Workshop might be exactly what you're after.

Whether you’re celebrating a milestone, planning a date with meaning, or just looking to try out something different, this hands-on jewellery making class is slow-paced, beginner-friendly, and deeply rewarding. You’ll walk away with more than just a beautiful piece of jewellery, you’ll have a new found appreciation for the trade and all the jewellery you love.

What is a Lost Wax Carving Workshop?

Lost wax carving is a centuries-old jewellery technique where you sculpt your design using jewellers wax, to then be cast into any solid metal of your choice through a traditional refining process. It’s how many so many jewellers you love (including us!) make their signet rings, pendants, and charms.

In this 3-hour workshop, you’ll design and carve your own piece using jeweller’s wax, guided by two experienced jewellers (hi, that’s us — Steph and Sian). We’ll be there every step of the way to help walk you through the different tools, design ideas, and techniques used to achieve your end goal.

What Can You Make?

The fun part about our workshop is you’re not limited to just making rings! You could set about creating yourself a unique pendant, or make some fun little earring charms. The options are endless in terms of type and style.

Each person has an allowance of 10g of sterling silver for casting (which covers most small to medium pieces) and we’ve introduced the option to upgrade to an additional +10g for $50.

We also bring along a small stash of gemstones for you to rummage through and include in your designs for a small fee. The fun part here is Sian and I will do the setting after casting and at the end of your workshop we'll discuss with you what setting style you'd like, with some examples on hand to show you. Ie flush, star set.  This just adds another sweet element to your designs that isn’t often available elsewhere.

What Happens After the Workshop?

After the workshop, your wax designs will be dropped to our trusted refiner in Melbourne’s CBD for casting. Once it's been through casting, Sian and I will professionally clean, polish and finish your piece from the Laverton North studio. The turnaround time post workshop is usually around 2-3 weeks, and once it’s finished and ready to make its way to you we’ll organise to deliver it to you, or you’re welcome to drop by to collect it!

No Experience Needed

You don’t need to be a jeweller or even that “creative” — just curious. Whether you're flying solo, coming with a friend, or surprising someone as a gift, this is an inclusive, beginner-friendly workshop that’s as fun as it is meaningful. Our space is also accessible, and on the ground floor with plenty of parking at the front door.
